Title: Quantum thermodynamic processes based on metal complexes
Abstract: In this seminar, we explore how quantum features shape thermodynamic processes. While classical thermodynamics has long provided the foundation for understanding energy exchange, the role of quantum correlations in these processes remains unexplored. To address this, we develop a theoretical framework based on a thermal version of the Ehrenfest theorem, leading to a Maxwell-like relation adapted to the quantum regime. This allows us to derive a general expressions for isothermal entropy change and adiabatic temperature change, linking them to microscopic properties such as the derivative of the Hamiltonian and the variance of the energy spectrum. We then apply this formalism to real materials: dinuclear metal complexes, whose magnetic behavior can be tuned and modeled via Heisenberg interactions. These examples demonstrate that quantum correlations can significantly influence heat exchange, revealing new pathways for controlling thermal responses in quantum systems and offering fresh insights into the caloric behavior of advanced materials.
