Título: Phyllosilicates for Advanced Nanophotonics: Insights from Talc and Its Vibrational Properties
Resumo:
Phyllosilicates have emerged as a promising class of large-bandgap van der Waals (vdW) insulators, offering a versatile platform for applications ranging from graphene-based devices to two-dimensional (2D) heterostructures with transition metal dichalcogenides. These materials exhibit enhanced optical, optoelectronic, and polaritonic properties, opening new avenues for nanophotonics and advanced light manipulation. However, naturally occurring vdW materials face challenges such as impurities and defects in their crystal lattice, which can influence their properties. Additionally, dimensional reduction in these systems introduces quantum effects that can significantly alter bulk properties, often unexpectedly, and further expand their technological potential. This presentation overviews recent theoretical and experimental advances in studying talc, a naturally abundant phyllosilicate mineral. Key findings on its structural, mechanical, and vibrational properties will be highlighted, alongside its potential applications in nanophotonics and optoelectronics. A comprehensive understanding of these features is crucial for tailoring talc and similar materials for specific 2D applications, paving the way for innovative technologies.
